The MyToday story – and how we made it special for you

2 Jul

When we launched our free MyToday daily SMS alerts back in 2006, we were astonished at how quickly we grew – from zero when we started to 4 million in 2009. That response made us believe even more firmly in the potential of SMS to improve people’s lives every day – make that every moment.

We spent months observing how you wanted to know more about the world around you – know more, know first, know all-the-time – and share with your friends.

We also watched how magazines, newspapers, TV shows, websites, even universities – began making their material, their content more accessible, more bite-sized, more share-able in response to this need to know.

All of the above three – the potential of SMS, your need to know, and the move towards microcontent – came together in our vision for our all-new MyToday.

MyToday is a market, a bazaar, a store – that brings you and content publishers together like never before. We’ve put together the widest variety of high-quality SMS-based content from the best publishers in their respective areas – and we’re adding more all the time.

Our primary goal is simple – to make available on the mobile whatever you want, need or like.

While our free daily SMS alerts continue (find our complete selection at http://mytoday.com/sms) the all-new MyToday is, clearly, in a different league. Super-long SMSes (up to 400 characters), 100% any-time access to your messages, both up-to-the-minute alerts as well as innovative monthly info packs – you’ve have never had it so good.

Several of our SMS subscriptions also contain links to mobile web pages, videos and images, so if you have a GPRS or EDGE connection, this is the best of both worlds. Do read out daily reports on World Affairs by The Economist on the mobile web, or download and watch memorable comedy scenes from movies by Rajshri Media, or read a module on Leadership by Knowledge@Wharton, or watch news clips and read news articles from MyToday.

Our second goal is to make all of this stuff easy for you to get.

Which is why you can pay through a variety of methods: credit and debit cards, net banking, pre-paid cash cards, cheque or cash. But we also went a step further and created the MyToday Cash balance. Now you can ‘refill’ your Cash balance once and buy several SMS subscriptions at a single click – no need to pay every single time you subscribe.

But you’ll be delighted at how easy it is to gift MyToday Cash to your friends and family to get them started. You can refill your Cash balance, gift cash via one SMS in seconds, and your friend or loved ones can start subscribing to their favourite SMS updates right away. Just sms GIFT followed by your friend’s mobile number and the amount to 09212 012345 (no spaces). For example, GIFT 9999988888 100 would gift 100 rupees to that number.

Our third goal is to make the widest possible variety of content available.

Whether you are a large media house or someone with an interest in any particular area – whether science or football or train travel or food or the stock market or anything at all, we welcome you to join MyToday’s ever-growing family of content publishers. We offer best-in the-industry terms for revenue share, and it’s very easy for you to get on board. Do let us know here, and we’ll get back to you very soon.

Update: the old MyToday.com and other services

30 Jun

This post is primarily for our current MyToday customers, who subscribe to a wide range of our services – free daily SMS alerts, MOBs and our mobile website.

Yesterday, we announced our all-new store for great SMS content, which is also called MyToday, and is available at http://mytoday.com. While we’ve seen a great response from our existing MyToday customers, there is some confusion about what has happened to our previous services.

Where did the old MyToday.com go?
The previous mytoday.com has moved to mytoday.mobi. Please update your bookmarks to the new location. The website remains the same, and all associated content is also intact. We will continue this for the near future – and keep you updated of all future plans.

Are the free daily SMS alerts also available on the new MyToday?
We have a completely new range of SMS updates available on the new MyToday, so the old free SMS updates are not part of our selection on MyToday. The new MyToday updates are much longer than the free ones (up to 400 characters compared to the old limit of 80 characters), and do not have any ads apart from other products on MyToday.

The list of free daily SMS alerts is available at http://mytoday.com/sms . To begin receiving alerts, simply follow the instructions of the top of the screen (under ‘My Daily Delights’).

How can I publish SMSes on my MOB?
You can continue publishing just like you used to. Simply visit http://pub.mytoday.com and log in with your mobile number and regular MOB password. You will see the familiar dashboard. Click on ‘Publish new Message’ and select a MOB to get started. Of course, if you have forgotten your password, sms PASS to 09223050606 and we’ll send you a new MOB password in a few minutes.

What if I have further questions?
Please send us an email at help@mytoday.com Please mention your mobile number in all communication with us so we can help you faster.

Say hello to MyToday!

30 Jun

Yesterday, we opened up the all-new MyToday to our customers and the world. And what a day it was!

MyToday, our new store for great SMS content, features 200 SMS channels that span a huge range of topics – whether it’s stuff you want to know about har pal har din, or to fill up those little snippets of free time daily.

You can get started in seconds! Just sms MYTODAY to 09212 012345 (no spaces) and we’ll send you your MyToday password in a few minutes. Login at MyToday.com with the password that you received.

On his blog, Rajesh wrote

News, cricket and sports scores, market and stock alerts, Bollywood news, astrology and other updates start at just Rs. 5 per month – these are unmatched prices today.

And that’s not all: MyToday features dozens of other SMS channels you won’t find anywhere else – industry sector-wise alerts, leadership lessons, daily muhurta alerts, world affairs, politics, how to live green, among many others. All of these are via our best-in-class content partners: Rajshri Media, MyIris, The Economist, Knowledge@Wharton, AstroCAMP. We will introduce more over the next few weeks.

In short, this dizzying variety means that customers will find something fresh, something useful in their SMS inboxes daily for their know-now, know-more moments. MyToday, we believe, will provide Har Pal… Kuch Zaroori!

At the end of the day, we’d racked up 220+ customers – and they’re growing very healthily indeed! A big thanks to all our early customers.

Remember, joining MyToday is as simple as sending MYTODAY to 09212 012345 !
